By Teri Farley

Regardless if one is a professional or an amateur race car driver, it is important that he should value his safety, just as much as winning that race. Extreme sports like race car driving involves danger in just about any corner. There have been thousands of injuries recorded as racing related injuries due to crashes which could cause severe damages particularly to the upper part of the body hence the need for one to wear head and neck restraint systems.

It is not uncommon for race car drivers to get minor injuries during racing. However, since that tragic accident that happened in 2011, race car drivers have been more careful. During the accident, the driver attained a basilar skull fracture, a very sneaky type of fracture affecting the ethmoid bone, temporal bone, occipital bone and sphenoid bne.

The rupture of these vessels will deplete the amount of blood going to the brain hence causing death, at some times in an instant. Death caused by basal skull fracture is continuously increasing among race car drivers and this prompted two of the most prominent racing organizations, NASA and SCCA to require these devices to all their racers.

Because of such findings, basilar skull fracture was considered to be a major cause of death for race car drivers involved in an accident. In response to such tragedy, restrain systems are now mandatory in all official racing sports. These equipments have proved to be quite efficient in reducing neck injury by restraining rouge movements in the head.

Basal skull fracture is one of the most life threatening injuries in racing however it was commonly ignored for years. In fact, these safety devices were not taken seriously at all up until major crashes in the track are getting more prominent and an increasing number of death caused by such fracture became more noticeable.

Every manufacturer has a wide variety of product feature and price enough to make it confusing as what to choose. Keep in mind that it's highly important to get the most suitable device to ensure efficiency. Aside from meeting the specifications from respecting quality control organizations, there are other factors which needs to be considered when choosing a device.

This includes comfort, ease of use and proper fitting. An ill fitted system is not only uncomfortable but also completely useless as this will not provide the proper restriction of movement during crashes. Therefore one is encouraged to have some test fitting before you pay for anything. Additionally, it is crucial for one to know how to fully operate the device without any hint of difficulty.

More so, make sure that the device has the right fitting. Proper fitting is actually a cardinal rule for comfort. Therefore make sure to get a proper fit on all your potential choices, in fact experts highly recommends test fitting before purchasing any device, this including the neck and head restraint itself. Installing these devices is a simple task though one can always request for an installation service.

Head and neck restraint systems could be the only thing that could separate race car drivers from life and death. Hence, one is encouraged to find the most suitable device.
