Choosing The Best ATV Accessories

By Kathy Kaufman

Not everyone who has a four wheeled all terrain vehicle rides it for the same reasons. Some choose this mode of transportation because the land they need to traverse is not well suited for other modes of travel, some for casual recreational use and still others for the thrill it provides. Because each person's experience is different, so are the types of ATV accessories they are likely to have installed.

The myriad of needs and preferences is nothing to fret over since manufacturers are happy to accommodate them all. Just about anything a person could think to add to their bike is available to them. Practically everything can be found from a new color handlebar cover to a full out roll cage to protect the rider.

Exchanging the factory installed set of tires for ones more suited to a particular purpose is something many owners decide to do right away. Selecting a different size wheel with a more specialized tread can improve the efficiency of the bike when performing certain tasks. Going bigger or wider could help make easy work of an especially rough ground or decrease the chances of becoming bogged down in mud.

Lift kits are another popular choice of modification for these vehicles, regardless of their main type of use. Adding these to the framework boosts the bike's height by about two inches and increases the shock's ability to absorb more impact. They also make it less likely that the fenders will scrape against the tire tread which could result in wear spots or even a blow out.

Another way to customize the bike to better fit one's own personal comfort is to change out the seat. Though the one it comes with is not bad, people who enjoy seeing just how rough a trail they can handle may prefer to install one that has a thicker cushioning to better protect their bottom area. Yet another of the many options available is a model designed to more effectively accommodate two riders at the same time.

Whether being used for work or for play, installing a winch kit is a good idea for both safety and convenience. This is a mechanism that will allow the ATV to remove obstacles from its path or even to assist another rider who has become stuck. It is also a way for one to pull their own bike from a hazardous situation when there is no one else around to help.

Installing a hitch set up to the rear of the bike gives it the ability to tow various objects such as trailers, wagons, tillers or plows. This is an especially handy tool when the vehicle is used for work purposes around a farm or just a large yard. It make transporting a myriad of items that may need to be moved a good distance quite a bit more convenient, not to mention quicker.

Storage bags, roll bars and spot lights are also common additions a lot of riders tend to make. The vast selection of ATV accessories basically makes the amount of customization one may do to their bike virtually limitless. Whether increasing functionality or enhancing the level of fun, there is something available that can make the dream possible.
