Obstacle Race Training: Can It Play A Part In Learning About Wrestling?

By Rob Sutter

Wrestlers have to train in order to get better and I can't help but feel like that's become much more gratifying as a viewer than actually watching the main shows. World Wrestling Entertainment, for example, has NXT as its smaller promotion where up-and-comers work. They are able to train, all the while gain experience in front of a smaller audience which can prep them for when they finally do reach the main shows. When it comes to working out, though, I feel as though obstacle race training can help greatly on the matter.

Triple H had developed NXT into a training facility and I think that his own accents are visibly shown compared to RAW or SmackDown. NXT feels far more old school in terms of its approach, since storylines are given better build. They have more time to flesh such aspects out since they aren't apt to advertise shows, brands, or anything of that nature. Wrestlers also have ample time to work in the ring so that they can learn to handle themselves when the spotlight is on them.

One of the aspects of wrestling that I cannot stand is some missing out on the developmental experience that would have made them better. Sin Cara, for example, has a great star in Mexico and it was believed that he'd be a star in WWE as well without prior training. However, he couldn't adapt to WWE's style and his own clashed with the majority of people he was in the ring with. Even Daniel Bryan had to train to some degree and he's regarded as a technical marvel in the ring.

Working to become better can be done through obstacle race training as well, provided it is done in the right fashion. These people have the chance to be stars later on and I think that a big part of that will come through means of versatility. Such stars are able to hone this well, Adrian Neville being one of them due to his ability to live up to the nickname, "The Man That Gravity Forgot." Such stars can prove themselves in physical scenarios, whether events like Spartan Race play a part or not.

I can't wait to see some of the up-and-comers of NXT make it to television because they have the opportunity to become great stars. Not only is Neville one of the more outstanding combatants but you also have the unorthodox Kassius Ohno and the mysterious Paige as two of my other standouts. It's clear that the wrestling future is bright, whether obstacle race training is seen or not. I just want to see my passion for the spectacle continue on because of such talent.
