Many people love fishing. This is probably because it is a cheap hobby and is suitable for all members of the family. It is not very tiring, nor is it repetitive and is relaxing. These species of fish are huge in size and are fighters; it is not easy to fish them. They are unrivalled in size and abundance and are the record breakers in the whole world. The cats average 15 pounds, with the biggest over 40 pounds. The record for the biggest blue ever caught is 143 pounds heavy and 57 inches long.

The Red River spans about 885km in length starting in North Dakota while draining in Winnipeg. Red River and Cat fish are used synonymously. This happens because the river is world renown for the cats it harbors. Red river is always the first and best option with anything catfish.

This river has more than 70 dominant species of fish. Among the cats are Channel, Sauger, Mooneye and Northern Pike. Others are Walleye and Bullheads. Baits are used to attract fish to the hook. The best bait to use with cats is chicken livers, shrimps or frogs. Its crucial that the bait used is well prepared and often smelly.

A sinker is used to ensure that the bait stays at the bottom. Protect the knot from the sinker using a bead or surgical tubing. The barrel swivel allows turning for your bait in the current and minimizes the line twists. The hook is the last piece and size is dependent on the size of fish to be caught and the bait. The best time to catch catfishes is between midnight and 6am.

The diet of catfishes is anything from small plants, to fish and their eggs and also minnows. They also love worms and leeches. Upon reaching adulthood, they can eat other fish usually bigger than those they fed on earlier. These fishes do not seem to mind eating dead matter and for this they are called opportunistic feeders. . Their preferred feeding time is in the dead of the night usually at the bottom of water hence are called bottom feeders.

Cats have one of the strongest senses of smell in the animal world. They use whiskers to sense food and swim towards it. They prefer night feeding since most of their prey is asleep. In addition, they can live in water that is polluted or has low oxygen content. They can also taste well. When you place the bait near the whiskers, they are able to sense it.
