The Advantages Of Sports For Kids

By Ronald Jassephilld

Kids nowadays are less involved in physical activities. They go out less and prefer to stay indoors to watch tv or play video games. They lack interest in getting out there and winning sports medals and trophies.

This can be bothersome as the lack of physical activity has a lot of negative effects on the child. It can affect his health a lot. Besides, it will also lower the child's ability to interact with others thus hampering the development of social skills.

This caused government and other institutions to do more in order to help in promoting sports among children. Various programs such as sports competitions and sports clinics are being implemented. It is also encouraged that schools give trophies and medals to their athletes.

Nonetheless, promoting sports is not just the job of schools and the government. Parents and communities also play a key role in molding the love of sports among children.

It is a must that the benefits of sports should be stressed to their young minds so they will appreciate it not just for the awards that they can get. The following are some of the benefits that kids can get from playing sports:

* Good health- Regular exercise through sports helps maintain a healthy body. Not only do they improve cardio abilities, they are also able to hone physical skills like strength and agility.

* Increased self-esteem- Studies show that children who engage in sports are more confident. This is especially true for girls. One of the factors that contribute to this is their good self- image.

* Leadership skills- Children who do team sports become good leaders. They are able to relate to their fellow players and know how to strategize in order to win.

* Gaining friends- Both team and individual sports help kids learn the value of camaraderie, friendship and sportsmanship. Healthy competitions have a lot of positive impact on children.

* Having fun- More than winning medals and trophies, the best part of playing sports is having fun. Physical activities such as sports encourage the release of happy hormones which can affect mood and general happiness.
