Planning Various Office Christmas Parties

By Danny O'hara

Office Christmas parties are often very important as they help employees bond with each other, as well as allow workers to get to know clients, potential clients and associates. There are many different types of events that can be planned during the holiday seasons including small, intimate affairs and large scale, black tie events. The type of event that is planned is determined by many different factors including budget, company size and other factors.

Many companies plan their holiday event as a means to thank their employees for their service throughout the year. It's likely that they will invite the workers' families and allow single workers to invite a guest. A lot of times the company will have a buffet or sit down dinner complete with alcoholic beverages and desserts.

At times, some companies use these types of affairs as a way to get to know clients and woo new ones. They may ask their customers to an event that has drinks, entertainment and dancing. They are quite likely to use their party as a way to promote a service or product.

Planning and doing the organizing of this kind of event can be quite overwhelming and it might seem like a full time responsibility for an employee or it might require the services of a group of workers. One good way to plan these kinds of events is to do it in advance. It might take several months in order to plan it.

Determining a budget and many guests will be invited are important first steps in the planning. These ideas will help to determine the style and size of the venue that will be required. It will help in deciding the kinds of foods that will included and the types of activities that will be done there.

A company who wants an intimate affair with employees and spouse may even be able to host the party at their office. They might ask workers to bring an item for a cookie exchange or a potluck or they could have it catered or serve only cake or another dessert. They might also decide to treat everyone out to dinner at a local restaurant or visit a local site such as a theme park or museum.

A business who wants to plan a large scale event for workers, clients, potential clients, vendors and associates might want to reserve a ball room for a large buffet or sit down meal. They might include dancing, award ceremonies or entertainment. This type of event might require the help of a professional party planner or event coordinator, a caterer and a professional photographer.

There are a lot of types of office Christmas parities and organizing and planning the best kind can be fun, but can seem overwhelming too. Deciding on a guest list and a budget is the first steps that need to be completed before being able to decide on a venue, activities and a menu. Small scale parties may be hosted at the business while bigger parties are usually held at ballrooms and hotels and other types of venues.
