Great Films For Those Enrolled In Karate In Encinitas

By Leigh Metopher

When your child is just learning a new skill, it can be fun to enhance their new interest by learning about many aspects of this new endeavor. For instance, if your child is learning how to play the violin, it might be fun to attend some orchestra concerts. For a new karate student or martial arts student, there are many movies that can build excitement in this sport.

Obviously, a child's age will factor into the decision about which movies to show to your child, but there are definitely films out there for almost every age group that can get children excited about martial arts. For children younger than 10, the remake of "The Karate Kid" is a fun choice, although technically, the martial art showcased in the remake was Kung Fu and not karate. The original "Karate Kid" does feature karate, and this is a great movie for children about 12 years and older.

Animated films are a great choice for younger children, so don't forget about the Jack Black film "Kung Fu Panda" and its sequel. This is great fun for young children and teaches the importance of friendship and self-confidence. If your daughter is starting martial arts, "Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior," might be a fun choice. This was produced by Disney in 2006 and is about a girl who discovers that she is the reincarnation of a legendary warrior and must learn martial arts in order to save the world.

Bullying is a huge problem for kids, and often the child who is the target of bullies feels powerless and lacks confidence. This was certainly the problem faced by Barry Gabrewski, the main character of "Sidekicks." Physically weak and tormented by kids and adults, Barry wishes he was an expert at martial arts and dreams of being the sidekick of Chuck Norris. Barry begins martial arts training and soon builds his physical strength as well as his bolstering his self-confidence.

There are many great martial arts films for teens, and if you want to see a true master at work, you can't go wrong with a Bruce Lee film. Lee created his own form of martial arts, known at Jeet Kune Do, and he is widely considered the father of mixed martial arts. "Enter the Dragon," is his most famous movie and the fight scenes are legendary. "Fists of Fury" is another Lee classic to consider. Both of these films also feature a very young teenage Jackie Chan in some of his first roles.

For those who need a Carlsbad martial arts school, an Encinitas karate school or karate in San Marcos, Team MAI offers classes for children aged four and up. The instructors at this karate school not only are highly skilled black belts, they focus on teaching their students to respect themselves and others, as well as building discipline and confidence. They also strive to make the classes fun and encourage students to build friendships. A two-week free trial is available, so you can try it out before you officially join.
