Parents Often Pursue A Medical Billing And Coding Certification Online

By Lisa Williamson

In this day of the Internet, there are many people who seek a medical billing and coding certification online. Often these people are parents seeking an alternative to the low incomes which are often all that is available to them. By pursuing employment alternatives, they are better able to pursue a more lucrative career path that allows them a variety of other benefits.

In a day when a college education can cost a hundred thousand dollars, many students prefer to obtain a professional certificate that can be achieved in a year for a fraction of the cost. These certificates nearly always guarantee the student will be able to find a job within that particular field. Many of the online schools even assist their new graduates in obtaining employment.

It is often possible for even the lowest wage earner to save up and pay for their program in full. This allows them to begin working toward their goals without having to report theirs, or a parents income to a student loan company. Once a student has completed their course and obtained their certificate, employers rarely care how much they did or did not pay for the program.

Young parents often discover that the cost of child care is overwhelming, and wind up working just to cover the expense of being able to work. Many potential employers have a work-from-home option available. In some cases this is only made possible after a period of on-site employment, but there are job opportunities available that encourage new employees to telework.

In this way the young parent can be at home with their children. Any parent who has had to raise a child in daycare centers knows that it is emotionally as well as financially taxing on both the parent and the child. The ability to be home with the young ones while still obtaining an income to help support the household is something one could only dream about in the eighties.

Anyone who transcribes medical reports can tell how difficult it is to make a reasonable wage when working by production. It is not unusual for one to start out as a transcriptionist, but pursue a different certificate within the field in order to make an hourly wage. Production-based work is nearly always done as an independent contractor, and at six to ten cents per line, one has trouble even making minimum wage.

There are some benefits to being an independent contractor, the primary one being flexibility. However, young parents most often wish for full-time employment with a good company. This enables them to work from home while still having access to health insurance, paid vacations, and 401k investment plans; all of which used to be associated with on-site employment only.

The field of health care remains a stable option, even in an unstable economy. Not all people are equipped to deal with the daily stress of working in a hospital, so an administrative designation grants that employment stability. It is not always a healthy option for parents to work in an environment where they are exposed to sick people.
