Features Of A Pistol Display Stand

By Claudette Lambert

A pistol display stand is both an aesthetic and a practical unit for housing a gun. Normally they are able to house several weapons, although in some cases they showcase just a single gun. The weapons are often mounted on posts that are adjustable. Security is very important and any unit should have the express purpose of deterring people from being able to remove the gun.

The handgun display unit is specifically suitable for showcasing at events, including exhibitions and fairs. The invention was also designed to be used by individuals in the home as well as by dealers and collectors, either at gun shows or in retail stores.

In the past, dealers have displayed their weapons without much fanfare, actually leaving them on tables or counters. Some would leave them lying around in shipping boxes or on a shelf, just like any other type of produce. Eventually, they realized that presenting the product in a desirable fashion would not only sell it quicker, it would deter theft. Therefore, the advent of the aesthetic weapon display for revolvers and handguns was born.

Weapons have in the past had been displayed by dealers in gun holding trays, which were created to house and retain several guns, with particular emphasis on pistols and revolvers. These trays were designed to store two guns, which were stored in such a position that the barrels were sitting opposite each other, one gun the right way round and the other upside down, to save space.

In the past, Storage for more than two weapons was catered for by a unit with slots that supported several handguns and allowed the product to lean sideways. None of the displays were usually that secure though, meaning they didn't really protect the product against theft. Many of the more valuable guns nowadays are housed behind counters with modern designs and more safety features, such as toughened glass and alarms.

The base of an upright unit has to be large enough to support the weight of either one or several guns. Convention dictates that they are made from either wood, plastic or from metal and are in the shape of a rectangle. Ideally, a unit would be adjustable, so that once a weapon has been sold, firearms of different dimensions can be displayed in their place.

What should not be overlooked is the crucial matter of housing the weapon. The display should be able to hold the barrel in place in an upright position without it being able to topple over over. Securing the gun in a way that deters people from trying to remove it from the unit is a must too. Some will add extra security to the unit, such as cables that secure the stand to a wall or a counter, thus deterring thieves from simply walking into an establishment, removing the display, and waling away with unit and guns.

When choosing a pistol display stand, there are many things to consider, things that go far beyond the price of the unit itself. Those after a sturdy material might choose metal, whereas for aesthetics they could go for wood instead. Then there are the security features of the unit, which may be of even more importance to others. Asking the dealer detailed questions about a stand is probably the best way to go about making a purchasing decision.
