Learn Why The Highline Hydration Pack Is A Great Alternative

By Jay Smith

With the temperatures reaching record peaks this summer, we're delighted to perform one more hydration pack evaluation, and Ultimate Direction was kind enough to oblige with their Highline pack, sending one out in Sunflower. (Blue Jewel is the other color option) This backpack takes a simple system regarding storage, instead focusing on being light on weight, and heavy on liquids.

As the bag alone primarily offers 5 liters (325 cubic inches) of storage space, still it have space for the included 2.8 liter (96 ounce) reservoir. For people who are outside right through the day, or want to blend some electrolytes with their drinking water, the Highline offers two exceptionally engineered water bottles compartments that enable your bottles to sit conveniently on each side of the bag. They are positioned for easy accessibility, without getting obtrusive.

With regards to your Clif Bar, GU, or energy gel, you can find generously sized pouches on the AirMesh waistbelt, which is as well-ventilated as the label suggests. A cell phone, Gps device, or compact digital camera conveniently fits within the compartments as well, and the material is stretchy enough that oddly shaped things are accommodated without any difficulties.

With all the ties and many of the back panel made from AirMesh, you're kept chilled while the weight is minimized. On the inside, there's a single big zippered pocket, with a smaller one within at the top, to carry the stuff you need more frequently.

We tested the bag climbing and bicycling along the river. In use, the AirMesh panels certainly assist with staying cool, while the straps keep the bag from bouncing around. It's much easier to assess their performance when bicycling than when on foot, but the truth is that any bag is going to create a few warm and sweaty spots.

Superior style keeps that to a minimum. The bite valve was practical and leak-free, which is just about all we can ask for. Of course, among the selling points is the style of the water bottle pockets. If you're utilizing them only for water bottles, they're perfect. Instead of stretchy, the hole has what feels like very high density foam attached into it.

We're granting the $99 Highline a fantastic general rating.
