Matters to Look into When Shopping for Horse Saddles

By Marian Que

Buying a horse saddle can be a tough job but getting the right saddle is the most essential rung in your long ladder of horse training and horse riding. The internet has plenty of tips on helping you out. However if you do decide to buy a saddle from a store you must also speak to the owner or the person who mans the store for some extra pointers. At such times it is always best to take advice from people who have been in the same field as you for many years because at the end of the day - experience counts!

You must know the styles of saddles available. Before buying your saddle it is always best to go through catalogues which will educate you on the different types obtainable. The saddles available today are all round saddles, Arabian saddles, draft saddles, show saddles, ranch saddles, performance saddles and trainer saddles. These saddles serve specific purposes. Except the all round saddles the rest are used for a definite occasion only. For example the show and performance saddles are used specifically when you decide to participate in a show or race. At these times you will be traveling at lightening fast speed. A flimsy saddle may wear out very quickly and you will have to face very die consequences. A training saddle doesn't have to be as sturdy as the performance ones. They have to be relatively light because you are still trying to get your horse accustomed to the saddle and train him in a precise direction. Arabian, draft and barrel saddles are not specially made for a particular purpose but are made as per the styles that originated in different parts of the world at different times. For example Arabian saddles were obviously first found in the Arabian desserts where the Arabs had mastered horse riding, they are very different in style from the ones American cowboys would use.

Before buying your saddle understand for yourself your purpose in doing so. Whether it is simple comfort and style plus a little bit of horse riding that you are searching for then opt for the Australian saddles. These have comfy seats and provide you with a good riding encounter. In case you are attempting to coach your horse you may also decide on the western saddles.

Select a high quality saddle so that you need not be worried about any contingencies while riding. Falling off a rapid moving horse may cause near fatal mishaps. A high quality saddle will shield you from this. Don't jeopardize on the cost.

Also check to see if your horse is comfortable with the saddle. Make sure there are no nails sticking out and poking the poor animal. After all it is the horse that is going to carry you to your destination safely!
