Choosing A Golf Club In Wheeling

By Melody Lyons

If you are thinking about retirement or just want to get your handicap down then West Virginia is the place for you. Finding a golf club Wheeling will not be too difficult at all as there are about half a dozen to choose from. Browse the internet before setting off to explore the possibilities.

The town too covers a wide spectrum. With its anti-slavery past, its Independence Hall and what was once the worlds longest suspension bridge, there is plenty of history. A casino on Wheeling Island with all the latest in gaming brings it right into the 21st century.

The municipal resort at Oglebay has no less than three 18-hole courses. One is the former home course of the West Virginia LPGA which is a very testing round with narrow tree-lined fairways. In addition to this they have a regular, wide open 18-hole course and the latest addition is a par 71 championship course designed by the great Arnold Palmer. The courses are hilly and all have water hazards. There is also a basic par 3 course for beginners and the less adventurous.

At the other end of the spectrum there are the private and country courses for members only. Complete with a full range of facilities like bar, food, pro shop around here will cost about four times as much to play on.

Public courses have little or no frills but do offer discounts at least for senior citizens. Prices vary quite considerably according to the facilities offered. Apart from the municipal resort, no course offers caddies but almost all will hire both clubs and carts. All courses are closed for the winter from around October/November until March/April.

There are so many options to choose from. Everyone can find a golf club Wheeling that will meet their requirements. Whether you are planning a golfing holiday or looking for a place to spend your retirement, if this sport is your game this is the place for you.
