By Diane Spencer

Catfishing has become more and more popular not only in the United States but as well as in many countries like Canada and countries in Asia. This is because catfish does not only provide a good meal but they are also fun and easy to catch especially that catfish can be found in both saltwater and freshwater. Catfish has a barbell or whiskers similar to a cat which they use for sensory purposes and this makes them easy to be identified and distinguished among other types of fishes. Among the many numbers of baits that one can use in catfishing, some of the most popular are sucker minnow, worms, frogs, cutbait, chicken liver and shrimps.

Catfish are easy to find and it is easy to find a good location to do catfishing because most catfish are found in freshwater. Also, you do not need complicated tools when catfishing since it only requires you to use the most basic fishing equipment. The following are some tips that may be helpful in order for you to catch catfish easier:

-It is good to do catfishing during early fall and spring because water is high due to the melting of the snow and autumn rains and this makes catfish more active.

-It is recommended to do catfishing during dusk because catfish are known to be more active during the night and less active during daylight.

-Warm water causes catfish to be slow moving and groggy that is why it is advisable to do catfishing during summer nights.

-Side banks, base of dams, hollowed stumps, around fallen trees and sink holes on the water floor are common places where catfish love to lurk.

-Unlike when catfishing during the day, catfishing at night requires you to be quieter because of the absence of daytime noise that can cover up the noise you make.

-Prior to catfishing, it is important that one knows information about catfish like the different types of catfish, the baits that attracts them easily and the habitat of the different types of catfish. These information are vital in the success of your catfishing.

-Using a live bait that is able to wiggle and produce water vibrations is important especially if you are planning to do catfishing in still water like the pond or lake since this will easily catch the attention of the catfish.

-Fresher baits tends to attract the attention of a catfish more compared to baits that are not very fresh.

-Keeping the hook down under the water and making little to no movement as much as possible is important when catfishing. But if after some time no catfish was able to bite your bait, it is time to look for another good spot to do you catfishing.
