Why Roger Federer Is Such A Good Tennis Player

By Davis Pete

I am always fascinated by the way the professional tennis players play the game of tennis. I always get inspired by the hard work they put in on and off court. These professional players have so much determination and perseverance in their training and during matches which helps them to succeed. Many of these professional tennis players are both physically and mentally strong and in order to be strong in these two important aspects of tennis, these players sweat off and on court and are always hungry for success. It is every child's dream to be top 10 in the world one day and even to win a grand slam. Although I like many tennis players, my favorite tennis player would be the number 1 in the world, Roger Federer. Roger Federer (born August 8, 1981) is a Swiss professional tennis player who, in 2004, became the world's top tennis player.

I like Roger Federer because I have always looked up to him since young and I have always dreamt of being able to play like him and have so many great achievements. He is indeed a legend. Roger uses his brain to play and is very clever and smart on court. He is able to change his game during the match to suit different situations and is always finding ways to outsmart his opponent on court and force them to make errors. I can always learn so much from Roger's game and how he plays on court is always so fascinating. Watching his matches never fail to amaze me at how well he makes use of the court to force errors off the opponents racket and how he plays so smart and effortlessly to win points. Federer uses his accurate serve to his advantage by using his serve to set up an opportunity for him to finish off the point. Moreover, his game is also unpredictable as he is an all-rounded player and can place the ball so well with such accuracy to create points for himself. The Swiss Maestro is also very good at changing the pace and rhythm of the ball to upset the tempo of the opponent, forcing errors from the opponent. He is also good at controlling his feelings and emotions and does not show it on court. Whenever he steps on court, he always plays so effortlessly and gracefully that it always amazes me.

Federer also has a competitive spirit that drives him to greater heights. He says 'You always want to win. That is why you play tennis, because you love the sport and try to be the best you can at it.' This shows that with his determined attitude, he managed to succeed and win 17 Grand Slam titles breaking the previous all-time men's record of 14 by Pete Sampras. Federer's list of achievements is countless and the Swiss has managed to break many records in his years of playing in the professional circuit.

With all these achievements, one would expect Roger to be cocky and arrogant. However, I personally feel that Federer is a humble guy and displays great sportsmanship on court. I feel that what is most important about a player should be his character and attitude. What is the use of having a player with amazing strokes and many achievements when his attitude is poor? Hence, I am also greatly inspired by the Swiss' character and attitude on and off court.

To end off, Roger Federer has truly been an inspiration and I have learnt a lot from watching him play and learning from his game. He is truly a remarkable sportsman with great sportsmanship. His calm and cool-headed attitude on court and his determined and competitive spirit off court has truly motivated me to work harder. I will always admire Roger Federer as he is such a clever player and he will always remain my favorite tennis player of all time. Alle Federer!
