Learning The Basic Steps From Tango Dance Lessons

By Vicki Diaz

By taking a couple of tango dance lessons, and by learning a few simple moves, you can do it like a professional. Originally, this famous dancing style was not danced as a couple, but alone; however, over the years, it became more like it is known today. The tango was first developed in South America.

This wonderfully entertaining dance of love is a sensuous performance filled with quick, sharp movements. The male and female move together in perfect harmony. It is one of the most popular Latin dances, of which also include the rumba and the cha-cha.

The basic step of it is quite easy to master. The man is in control and leads the lady, and starts off with his left foot. He moves forward as she moves back with her right foot. The man will step forward again with the other foot, and the lady will follow. Start by giving two beats to each step, but pick up the pace a bit so that the whole process is completed in just one beat of the music once you get the hang of it.

The movement changes now, with the man stepping to the right onto his right foot. The left foot follows, but does not step. It slides smoothly over. The ladies do the same movement, but in the opposite direction, as they are always facing their partner. In the dancing movement, step with heels first, to make it look attractive. With a little practice, the basic moves will become like second nature. Once the basic step is mastered, the dancers can go on to more complicated moves.

Practice makes perfect and soon you'll be ready to dance to music. Long ago, orchestras were used for this kind of dances, but now a D. J will suffice. Be prepared for quite quick, dramatic music, as this is not really considered as a slow performance. The lady partner should look stunning in a dress or skirt that is brightly colored. The skirt of the outfit should not be tight-fitting, it should swirl outwards.

The lady's skirt can be in red and orange patterns, for example, or even in a 'loud' pink design. Different prints can also be used to produce a stylish dress or skirt. Make sure that you are comfortable, as you won't do your moves well if your clothes do not fit properly. Casual lady dancers can even wear pants and attractive top. A high-heel shoe is essential, as it accentuates your steps.

Flashy accessories are unnecessary, as the dance is exciting enough. As for the men, their outfit is often black, but their shirt could be of a different color that matches the dress of their female partner. The shirt usually fits well; it is not loose or baggy, and it is not closed at the neck. Black ballroom shoes are ideal.

A professional teacher at a dance school will provide you with tango dance lessons, for fun or for competitive purposes. The lessons enable you to learn as you perform, and are never boring. Instead of trying to imitate your friends' dancing styles, rather learn from an experienced dancer. You can also invite your friends to your classes, and have fun together.
