Ask yourself this question - what do you think of when you think of the word "vacation?" If fly fishing is your sport of your choice, then the ideal vacation would include some sublime fishing in some really great spots. A fly fishing vacation doesn't have to be just for the fisherman. How's this - how about bringing the family along on your fly fishing vacation?

So what are the considerations you have to keep in mind when planning such a vacation with fly fishing? The first thing to consider, natch, would be the people whom you plan to invite. If you are just going with "the guys", and they are all interested in little else on this vacation but fly fishing, you just need a place to stay. Things would change considerably, though, if you're bringing the missus and the kids with you, as you need to take note of the things they may want to do.

A fly fishing vacations can be both exciting and productive. Choose a spot where you can easily get to within your budget. You'll need to be mindful of location because some fly fishing spots are relatively obscure and difficult to get to. This could stick a fork into your budgetary plans.

There are packages available that fit into plans for a fly fishing vacation, and these deals often closely resemble all-inclusive resorts in terms of expenses covered. But since most lodges don't have restaurants it is advisable to bring your own food with you. You will want to choose a package that is inclusive of transportation so you can easily get to the fishing spots. Guides could help you find the best fishing spots, and some lodges would readily provide them to guests.

If you're bringing the family with you, you'll want to look for a family friendly location. In general, families need things to do while you're out catching the big Kahuna, so you'll want to consider places like Northern California, with its spot-on fishing and abundant entertainment choices. Most lodges in this area offer amusement options for the kids and a nice places where the missus can unwind. In fact, some lodges offer spas, so wifey can get pampered while you're out on your latest fishing adventures!

Or better yet, how about convincing the family to get into this wonderful sport on your next fly fishing vacation? Your wife may not share your love for football or other physical sports, but she just may identify with fly fishing - the kids would be even more likely to have their curiosity satiated as you teach them the art. This is a great source of amusement for the entire family. Then you can truly have a family vacation!

Planning your fly fishing vacation can be fun, and will certainly be worth it if you plan carefully, regardless whether you're taking the wife, the kids or your regular fishing buddies with you.
