Launceston Hotels Near Wine Country

By Walter Llewelyn-Brown

When visiting Tasmania, Launceston hotels enable visitors to stay in a central location. Not just central, but deeply interesting: much colonial activity took place here starting two centuries ago, including the arrival of convicts from England. Visit some of the oldest buildings in Australia between wine tours through the Tamar Valley and games of golf.

While visiting historic Tasmania, one accommodation option is the Mercure. You will be less then half an hour from the airport while shopping is just a few minutes walk away. Rooms are fitted with single, queen and king beds plus crib or extra bed for a child by arrangement. This inclusive hotel has rooms fitted specifically for mobility challenged guests plus a number of family rooms.

Just walk off jet lag during your stay, or wander over to nearby James Boag Brewery. The Seaport is also close, plus lots of culinary opportunities. To ensure you have funds, use hotel currency exchange or their ATM. Front desk services also include tour and airline information, car hire and babysitting on request.

Penny Royal Hotel is an unusual structure. First built over one hundred and fifty years ago, it was moved one brick at a time and refurbished. In spite of its age, this is a modern hotel close to Cataract Gorge and Old Launceston. Rooms are non-smoking with some cooking facilities.

On-site take a peek at the Lolly Factory and gift shop. To prevent eating too many sweets, cook-up a little snack in your room on some basic kitchen facilities, then go shopping. Burn off the sugary calories with walks and exploration of attractions like Cataract Gorge.Though one can heat-up meals, breakfast is served every morning so take advantage. Other services include guest laundry and dry cleaning, a work desk in your room, broadband internet and direct dial telephones. Reassure mum that all is well in Tasmania by giving her a call from your room.

Peppers Seaport Hotel has done things in reverse: built a modern building on an old site. Once a dry dock, some interior features resonate with nautical charm. Sixty rooms and suites invite the lover of pure relaxation. Eat at their Mud Bar and Restaurant serving local wines and foods, or cook in your own suite to ensure complete, romantic privacy.

Book one of the suites at Sebel. These may have a deep bath or full kitchen facilities: just choose set priorities. You could be looking at a bath menu that resembles a dessert selection at some local restaurants, including kid-friendly bath products. It turns out, however, to be room service for the outer body and spirit (though not the stomach). For that organ visit your mini bar, set individual climate control, then recline on your bed to watch cable TV.

Twenty-four hour front desk staff can help you find what you need. Business services are available for working clients, plus undercover parking. This makes a stylish place to clinch an important corporate relationship. Maybe shake on the fine print in front of the open fire or outside in their private hotel courtyard. Say thank you by offering a hotel gift card to your new business associate.
