Understanding The Importance Of Jogging In An Exercise Regime

By Johnnie Brando

The whole purpose of exercising is to improve your physical health. Too often, when a person is creating a fitness regime, they tend to focus on one type of exercise and stick to it. While getting some exercise is better than not getting any exercise at all, the best programs are the ones that combine several different workouts. This means that in addition to working on strength training you also need to make sure that you add some aerobic work, including jogging. Anyone who is interested in getting a complete workout can not forget about the importance of jogging in an exercise regime.

Most people assume that jogging is basically the same thing as walking, this is wrong. There are some pretty big differences between walking and jogging. The first difference is that jogging is more cardiovascular, your heart rate increases more when you jog then it does while walking. Another difference is that you move more body parts when you jog, your arms pump instead of swing and you lift your legs more, the more body parts you use, the more calories you burn.

One of the things that jogging does better than either running or walking is improving an individuals muscle tone, particularly in their lower legs. The action of jogging, taking short bouncing strides, forces the person to use their lower legs in a manner that they do not at any other time. The only other exercise that is comparable is running up and down steps.

People who jog on a regular basis do not have nearly as many issues with their blood pressure as people who never jog. The reason for this is simple. The more the person jogs the more their circulation increases. The increased blood flow keeps their arteries free of blockages and clots.

Jogging is a great stress reliever. When a person is jogging, especially once they have gotten to the point where they are slightly out of breath, they have to really start to concentrate on what they are doing.

Jogging is a great way for a person to decrease their stress. When a person jogs, they reach a point when they have to focus on what they are doing, and can no longer think about their day to day troubles. While jogging does not eliminate the individual's personal problems, it does give their brain a short mini-vacation. This seems even more true when the person jogs along the side of a road or in a park

When an individual remember the importance of jogging in an exercise regime they can make sure that they have a workout routine that uses jogging and other forms of exercise to achieve the optional health. Most fitness experts would recommend jogging two or three times a week, saving the remaining days of the week for different types of workouts.
