What One Can Learn From Self Defense Classes Dallas

By Larry Patterson

Self defense is arguably one of the most important things that one has to learn because mugging or rape cases are extremely common. While learning how to fight will not completely guarantee the safety of a person, it increases the chances of not getting killed, beaten up, or raped. So for those who are curious, here are a few things that one will learn from self defense classes Dallas.

When one would learn how to fend him or herself on the streets, there are three essential types of attacks that one has to take note of. These are the unarmed attacks, the ground attacks, and the weapon attacks. Of course, the easiest to defend against would be the hand to hand attacks which would include punches, kicks, locks, grapples, throwdowns, and basically anything unarmed.

When one would get attacked on the street by a drunk person or a person on drugs, the attacker would usually just charge forward with a flurry of punches, slaps, and pretty much anything to hit the defender. As the defender, one has to learn how to parry these attacks and either make the attacker trip down or get the attacker in a lock. One will most likely learn how to use the boxing guard for defending and rush in for a counter.

Of course, some of the basic fighting techniques might not work on more experienced grapplers who happen to be muggers. So the best way to address these kinds of attackers would be to know how to do the basic submission or grappling counters. Once one is able to counter a grapple move from an attacker, he or she can run away and avoid fighting.

Now, a large percentage of attacks end up on the ground, especially during the cases of rape. Fortunately though, there is a combat form known as Jiu Jitsu which teaches attacks that can be used while lying on the back. Most classes teach basic jiu jitsu techniques aimed at breaking the arms and legs of the assailant while the defender is on the ground.

Finally, there would be weapon attacks wherein the assailant is armed with pretty much anything that can hurt the defender. The usual weapons that one can defend against would be knives and sticks. Students would learn how to parry armed attacks or avoid them as a whole in order not to get hurt.

Now, a lot of students would ask about defending about guns. Yes, one can defend against guns through gun disarming if one is in the correct range. This usually involves short grappling moves to push the gun at another direction away from the assailant. This is usually taught to police but is rather risky to do.

These are some of the things that one will learn if he or she would take up these classes. Do take note that there is no guarantee of safety even if one learns these moves. However, as mentioned above, will decrease the chances of getting killed.
