The Quintessentially Versatile Military Fiberglass Antenna Mast

By Betty Kelly

For certain specialized specifications for advanced technology, the sourcing often comes from the defense establishment. Armament related manufacture is part of a complex that has often been criticized by many as useless and unduly terrifying. But then, it has provided a lot of the most common items for the comfort, safety and use in civilian terms that all people should be aware of.

There might not be a civilian commercial use for specific small items in the arsenal and logistics lists for military purposes. However, their materials may have become a byword for the safest and most useful products in homes or offices. One of these items is called the military fiberglass antenna mast, which is very specific to naval or surface warship use.

The masts in question can be seen in radar terminals and air bases, or other specialized vehicles and planes. Their naval use is very vital for many things that cruisers, DDGs, subs and other ship classes need. One of the most important is the fact that these are stable installations needed for radar that enables ships to monitor over long distances, a component of military capability and safety.

These masts are also akin to radio aerials, and they are able to have many kinds of attachments for different systems in use. These can have radio dishes attached, and things like radar equipment, scopes, weather monitoring attachments, and long distance communication instruments. Thus they have a lot of utility while providing unequaled durability.

Plastic is so versatile, and fiberglass is perhaps one the most versatile and durable of plastic composites. What the military needs are materials that have strength to endure battles which are simply to make or operate. When it comes to civilian use, however, fiberglass has proven its excellent utility time and time again.

Fiberglass is a kind of plastic composite that has great dimensions for strength proven in crash tests. Military specifications are often tagged for strength and simplicity in materials, which work well during battles. However, there has been a lot more civilian usage for fiberglass than for defense, like in very strong car frames and dashboards.

These masts are also usable for terrain rovers on the moon or Mars, for research submersibles, AWACS vehicles and drones. They are perfect as stabiles or stable structures that are capable of withstanding extreme winds and waves. However, there is a need to size them according to, and in this way prove that how versatile they truly are to technically complex applications.

Places like malls, office buildings and other public civilian structures use them. They are also vital to basic services, because internet installations, telecom works, and utility lines become more durable and weatherproof whenever they are used. The efficiency and cost effective factors must not be overlooked, since it takes very little to maintain them.

Thus, for this one single piece of hardware, people innovate, create and integrate. It means that many things in use for warfare may be turned into ploughshares, according to one basic tenet of Biblical philosophy. For people, what is truly practical is something to be appreciated and used accordingly, and war thus becomes a temporary state of things that must be prepared for in order not to occur.
