The Benefits Of Private Homeschool

By Daphne Bowen

The country is currently experiencing a crisis in public education. Classrooms are over crowded, violence has become an everyday occurrence and teaching standards are falling. With all this in mind many parents each year are now opting to educate their children at home. This gives them a unique opportunity to customize a learning plan for each child, which can then be delivered in a calm and safe environment.

Public education is facing a national crisis, this applies to San Francisco, CA just as much as anywhere else. Parents are now taking a much more serious interest in their children's education and many are choosing private homeschool over the more traditional options. They have often done extensive research and have seen the benefits associated with teaching their children at home.

There are so many advantages to following a home schooling program. The first and most obvious of these is the ability to provide a unique educational program for each child. Even in families with three or four children, it is still possible to construct an individualized plan that meets the needs of the children and parents.

As with any parenting question, having the chance to chat with those who have already been through it is the best way to go. San Francisco, CA is home to a thriving and ever growing home education community. There are groups of parents in all parts of the city who meet regularly to exchange ideas and allow their kids to socialize. Families are drawn from across the social and economic spectrum and really are a very eclectic group. Although some groups are affiliated with churches, there are also plenty that are not. Every family will find something to suit their individual needs.

Learning about the history, geography and culture of a region is much easier with a hands on approach. Many studies have shown that children educated at home reach much higher academic standards than those in public schools. Students are also free to explore what interests them most. They can utilize far more approaches and resources than typical children.

Many parents have found that just been a face in a busy classroom is not the best place for their bright and gifted child. These children are often bored by the curriculum and need a challenge to keep them interested. Home education can provide more of a challenge and allow the child to explore the materials that interest them. Public schools are quite limited in what they can teach and the levels that students are able to reach. Being able to really explore their interests in depth is a great way to fire their imagination.

Social opportunities are also better for children who are schooled at home. They do not have to deal with bullying. In fact, many parents remove their child from regular schools because of bullying. Home school groups throughout the city provide the perfect way for families to get together and children to make a wide range of friends.

Field trips and outings are another important part of home education in San Francisco, CA. The city has so many fun and exciting places to visit. This can range from the park or beach, to a day out at a museum. Science centers and galleries are also great options.
