How To Prepare A 3 Day Survival Kit

By Lucia Weeks

Disasters can happen at any time and at any place. These tragedies may include floods, typhoons, tsunamis, fires, and others. Most of the times, these events can claim the lives of a lot of people and also damage a lot of properties. Even if there are instruments that can detect the possibility of certain tragedies, people should prepare themselves at all times.

National and local governments typically disseminate information on what people should do before, during, and after these calamities. One of them would be to prepare a 3 day survival kit. Individuals should make sure that the following things are present in their kits.

Bags where their necessities will be placed will have to be bought by the individuals. They need to ensure that durable bags will be bought. This way, all necessities will remain in these containers and also not fall off. Those which are water proof might also have to be bought so that their belongings will not be wet if ever floods or heavy rains will occur.

Usually, evacuation centers may not provide clean water. For this matter, they will have to bring their own clean water so that they can quench their thirsts while they stay in the evacuation centers. They should bring one gallon per day per person. They also need to store non perishable food such as noodles or canned goods. For the latter, they also have to bring can openers so that they can eat these goods.

Their cellphones should be brought by the persons so that government authorities or others could be communicated with about these situations. Chargers and extra batteries should also be kept so that their cellphones can still be utilized. Aside from that, transistor radios should also be present so that important events and announcements will be known to them. Flashlights should also be available for their nights to be illuminated.

They should also have copies of their personal documents. These documents include their birth certificates, identification cards, marriage certificates, insurance policies, passports, and others. These will help the government agencies to identify these people and provide them with whatever help that they may need.

Even if there are disasters, it is important for them to observe cleanliness so that they will not get sick, especially during typhoons and floods. They may need to carry items for sanitation and hygiene such as wet wipes, alcohol, and toothbrushes, among others. They may also need to carry extra clothes so that they can change into dry ones if ever they get wet from heavy rains.

Medical supplies should also be put in the bags. The supplies could include medications for common illnesses that are experienced by people in evacuation centers such as headaches, stomachaches, and colds. Cotton, band aids, and alcohol are also needed in case wounds, burns, or cuts are caused to them by certain disasters.

Multi purpose tools are also needed which could be utilized in different situations. Maps should also be possessed. Plans should be made beforehand by the families about where there meeting places will be if ever they get separated from each other. The contact information of important persons or government agencies should be known by all members.
