Cheap Ammo Does Not Have To Mean A Compromise On Quality

By Rosella Campbell

America today is concerned with many things. The economy, foreign affairs and other things top the list alongside of the issue of gun control. Gun control is something that gets people pretty riled up. There are proponents for both sides of the argument. Anti-gun control proponents are worried about things like what weapons are available and how cheap ammo can be purchased.

The United States Constitution is fairly clear as to what it intends to do. It outlines the mission of the United States and the rights that its citizens can enjoy. The second amendment lays out the right of the people to bear arms. This is meant to reinforce the people's ability to govern themselves and to defend themselves and their property against nefarious minds.

If gun control is enacted in the United States, it will be the first step toward allowing the government the ability to control the people, rather than the people controlling the government. Overturning the Constitution is something that should be avoided at all costs. Allowing the power of the government to outshine that of the citizen is a process that takes time and effort. It takes many steps and small defeats to the people.

There is very little that both sides of the debate can agree on. The polarity of those involved can mean that there is very little that can be compromised on. The extreme left want to have firearms criminalized and banned and the far right won't allow for any type of gun control.

What both sides are concerned with is the sale and availability of weapons and ammunition. You can control weapons by making them or the necessary rounds prohibitively expensive. If an area makes it nearly impossible to shoot, the consequences will be considered on a financial level before much else. The weapon can be cheap but if rounds are hundreds of dollars per shot then each shot is an investment.

State restrictions have been working for the most part and it would be nearly impossible to get rid of all the firearms in the US. The states are already full of weapons that are in such diverse places that it wouldn't be an accomplishable task to get rid of them. Everyone from teenage shooting enthusiasts to grandmothers who provide their own home protection own weapons legally.

There is no reason that law abiding citizens can't exercise their right to bear arms. It was a fundamental premise during the foundation of the United States. There is much disagreement as to what that phrase actually means but it does lay the groundwork for some heated discussions. The gun control debate is a fiery one that has always attracted strong opinions from both sides.

Allowing gun control to take a hold in the United States is not a step that constitutionally minded people will let happen. The country was founded on many principles, one of which is clearly, that the people have the right to arm and defend themselves. Weapons should always be available to legal, responsible consumers.
