Mozambique ,the ultimate getaway destination with something for everyone.

By Chelsea Hirschfield

Maputo is not only the capital city of Mozambique but is also home to the country's most important harbour. It is situated at the mouth of the Santo River in the extreme south 90 km from the border to South Africa. Compared to some other sub-Saharan African cities the urban area feels small and concentrated with wide avenues and old trees. People are generally out and about in the streets, walking driving and getting on with life. The vibe is healthy and active, with little begging and lots of street vendors and markets. There is no heavy presence of police during the day, and there is no feeling that it is needed either.

Tucked away in Mozambique off the beaten path, the Maputo Elephant Reserve is an unspoiled area offering spectacular vistas of the rugged country that surrounds it and a sanctuary for one of the world's largest animals. The natural beauty of this reserve holds an exhilarating experience for visitors. The reserve is part of a much larger network of national parks within Mozambique, South Africa , and Swaziland. Tourists can marvel at the huge population of over two hundred elephants that make their home in this striking reserve. Along with the elephants, there are several species of birds, zebras, antelopes, crocodiles, and hippos.

Mozambique hosts an outstanding selection of marine life and stunning tropical coral reefs that can only truly be appreciated when viewing them up close. Snorkeling awards travelers the opportunity to explore the various coral spectacles and swim with the schools of exotic fish. From clownfish and angelfish, over rays and sharks, to whales and dugongs - they can all be found in the turquoise waters neighboring Mozambique's islands and coastline.

Majority of the tourists visiting Mozambique head for the beaches and islands. Given the decades of war and social upheavals plus the poor infrastructure of inland Mozambique, there are few other places that hold an attraction for visitors. For the more classic tropical islands of coral reefs, waving palms and white sandy beaches, visit the Bazaruto Archipelago, or the even more remote northern islands of the Quirimbas Archipelago.

Mozambique is an undiscovered gem, and is the ideal setting for families and honeymooners. Mozambique is the ultimate getaway destination with something for everyone. It boasts excellent water activities like diving, fishing and swimming, not to mention value for money fresh seafood and delicious prawns. Accommodation consist of camping, guest houses, resorts, hotels and much more.
