Football Season

By James Bell

The Transfer Window which is in January excites all the football fans, the clubs and the players alike. Football clubs can sign new players to their teams twice per one year, which is something that usually strengthens them. The two transfers occur during summer and winter. The summer transfer open on the 1st of June, and ends on the 31st of August, while the winter transfer lasts only through January.

Many new players enrich various teams in August, at the beginning of the football season. Managers have two options: they can promote young players, coming from youth teams or reserves, or they can sign players coming from other clubs. The goal of this is to make the attack, defense of midfield stronger. When players are selected from youth teams, they usually don't need a period of time to adapt to the way of playing, but if they come from other clubs, this period is necessary in most cases.

Some say that signing are a big gamble, because no one can guarantee that the new team members will perform as eye catchingly as they did in their previous teams, because it is possible they will not fit in. High profile players are usually the most expensive ones and the ones club's fans demanded. These players are usually under intense pressure, which makes someone unable to perform according to their possibilities.

"Panic signings" are the signing that occur in January. When a player is panic signed, it means the team had to have him. A team manager needs to sign a good attack player if their team is nose-diving because of problems in that area. January is a good opportunity to sign new players if the current players in the area are injured of performing badly.

Some say that when you sign players in January and not in June, there's a slight blip. Most high profile players in January are cup tied. Players who participate in the UEFA Championship league usually aren't signed by European clubs. When a player is cup tied, it means that he played in the same competition with their club in that season, and cannot play for some other team. These players are allowed to play in domestic leagues only if they do get signed.

If a player is signed in the January transfer, it means the club has had them targeted for a very long time before that. Managers have scouts who watch players play over and over before they're signed. It is not easy to sign a player. Clubs that do the transfer need to reach an agreement when signing the player bout the sum of money. Apart from the money between the clubs, the signed player need to agree to his weekly wage, match bonus, as well as to the percentage increase the new club will offer. In addition to weekly wages and bonuses, the new club needs to pay the sign up fees for the new player in case he's a free agent.
