Breaking Your Facebook Habit

By Rose Lithgow

If you think you are spending too much time on Facebook, then this article will help you to see if you are getting addicted to it.

One way to tell is by taking a look at your gaming habits while you are online. They make the games work in a way that keeps you coming back and spending more time online. If you are playing more than one game, or feel like you need to get a certain amount of things to get done on the game everyday, then you may be just where they want you.

Facebook games are meant to get you hooked on them, and it is really easy to sit down in the morning and intend on only playing for a few minutes. However, when you look up and realize that it is dark outside, then you know that your whole day was spent doing and gaining nothing in the real world.

Maybe you don't play online games, but Facebook can suck you in just by messaging. How often every day do you sign in and check your messages and see what your friends are doing? These things really don't need to be done more than once or twice a day.

What you really should be doing is get online and check your page once or twice a day, maybe in the morning, and then at the end of the day. This is a good way to keep in touch and get the summary of their events.

Go out and do things that will enrich your own life, and don't spend all day looking at everyone else's. There's so much you are missing by keeping up to date with Facebook all day long.

What kind of things are you posting on Facebook? People are really not that interested in the little details that fill our days, so keep in mind that the more boring your posts are, the less people will read them. Keep it brief and interesting, and then sign off.

One way to get balance back in your life is to force yourself to do something purposeful or meaningful or fun every day. That way you won't get sucked into Facebook, and people will think that you are interesting and they will enjoy your sporadic updates much more.
