The 2011 NFL Season And Free Football Picks

By Thomas Holby

With news reports hinting at an imminent deal to be struck between the NFL and the Players Association, thus saving the 2011 football season, now would seem to be a good time to provide some free football picks for fans. Many NFL observers have lamented the fact that the lockout has caused the attention to be diverted for the game itself and instead focused on the myriad courtroom battles between the two sides. However, here are a few things to look forward to on the gridiron.

2011 may be known as the year of the comebacks. News outlets have begun to speculate about the return of Tiki Barber, the former New York Giant's running back who retired three years ago. After a failed attempt at a broadcasting career, Barber indicated he would consider a comeback under the right circumstances. Reports suggest that he has been training very hard in the gym over the course of the past several months, trying to get back into professional shape.

The former Pro Bowler retired just before the Giants won the Super Bowl in 2007, a bone of contention which Barber carried on his shoulders as he began a broadcasting career the following year with NBC. However, Barber was not long for the booth either, and has sought to get back in the good graces of New York fans by returning to the field and his to reclaim his past days of glory.

There is also the unknown status of Terrell Owens. The star wide receiver has had a rough go of it throughout the past several years, bouncing from one team to another. When the Dallas Cowboys decided to cut ties with Owens, he ended up in Buffalo in 2009, not even lasting one full season.

Last season, Owens lined up with fellow all pro wide out Chad Johnson, but the pair did not mesh well on the field and the results were manifest in the standings; the Bengals missed the playoffs In 2010, Owens suited up alongside fellow wide out Chad Johnson in Cincinnati, but the Bengals suffered a miserable season and finished out of the playoffs. The enigmatic Owens suffered a torn ACL is his knee during the end of last year's campaign, an injury that has been a death blow to professional athletes in any sport. It is unknown at this point if any clubs with take a chance on Owens during the upcoming season, but T. O. Has vowed to be ready to play.

However, as several players have been attempting comebacks from age and injuries, one player who will not be among them on that list is quarterback Brett Favre. After injuries derailed his 2010 season in Minnesota with the Vikings, Favre informed the organization that he would not be returning for a third season with the club. Instead, the future Hall of Famer will retire for the third time, ending an impressive career which included one Super Bowl championship and countless Pro Bowl appearances.

There are other stories which will be worth following over the course of the season as well, including how the several new head coaches will fare with their new teams, and which team will finish last and earn the dubious right to draft stud quarterback Andrew Luck in the next rookie draft. The season begins, as it always does, in September.
