Golf Courses San Jose, California

By Kathie Sweet

Thanks to its sunny skies and temperate climate, golf courses San Jose can thrive, green and scenic. So can the golfers who come here, either as regulars or guests. Choose one of the many courses for your next game and practise some putting.

In exchange for high fees, some clubs are very exclusive. You must buy a membership to play, or come as invited guest with a member. Even immediate family may only be able to tee-off with members during specific times. Book at the club or on-line if possible. Other facilities are more open, encouraging non-members to drop-in for a fun match during their vacation or while out looking for something fun to do.

You could even live on the edge of a course. Retire at the site of a professionally designed fairway housed within a gated community. On non-golf days, enjoy swimming, tennis and the elliptical machine in the company of other seniors.

For junior players there are lots of places to develop putting and driving skills as a hobby or as a prelude to becoming a pro later on. Sign-up for camps, private and group training sessions established for boys and girls. Join a league appropriate to your age group. Compete among your peers under the watchful eyes of skilled individuals.

Think of club house and a picture of tree houses and rope ladders may come to mind. Take a look at the club house on a local fairway. This is often a stylish and sophisticated location, a place perfect for co-ordinating banquets, fund raisers and wedding receptions.

Golf facilities are often multi-faceted. Many examples house other fitness amenities like a gym, tennis courts, pools plus restaurant and lounge, ideal for romance or meeting with clients. Depending on how exclusive the course, this could be the home of a fine chef producing elegant cuisine or a snack stand serving refreshments to holiday drop-ins. A pro shop is often on-site to meet needs from clothing to clubs, just in case some part is missing. Dress etiquette is important at a private club after all.

The age of each course varies from one to the next. One may be just a decade old. Others have a much longer history and have played host to major tournaments and famous players. People book their own competitions at some of these clubs, as fund raising events for example. Some facilities run seasonal events for couples or at Christmas, combining golf with food and wine. Check out calendars on-line for special events coming-up.
