By Rodrigo Stankkovic

There are 5 major popular diets that are sweeping the world. Each year, women and men across the country make resolutions to lose weight and increase their fitness levels. However, these days there are so many diets from which to choose that many are left confused and unsure which diets are healthy and which will help them lose the most weight. Here is a quick look at 5 current diet fads.

Atkins Diet makes it among the five popular diets. The diet involves high amounts of proteins with minimal intake of carbohydrates. Such diet is said to control insulin levels in the blood stream. Carbohydrates make the rising and falling of insulin go too fast that slows down the burning of stored fats in the body.

Weight Watchers, on the other hand, is a household name program which is favored by many for decades now. This program is also experiencing rekindling of interest among dieters. The main feature of such program is providing you with a large support group of dieters involved in the same program though it also include dieting and exercise. Weight Watchers is now chiefly done through the Internet.

The Zone is somewhat similar to Atkins Diet as it controls the levels of insulin. But the difference is it does not exclude carbohydrates particularly unrefined carbohydrates together with healthy fats and oils, for instance, as olive oil.

A diet that was developed out of in opposition of meal recommendations of the American Heart Association is known as the South Beach Diet. It was the response of a cardiologist in the '90s to AHA proposition of a diet that is tremendously low in fats but is backed with calories that consist of high amounts of carbohydrates. This diet provides an alternative that corrects this part by providing meal plans which consists of low refined carbohydrates but still with the inclusion of a reasonable quantity of healthy fats.

A new dieting fad is the Raw Food Diet. As can be imagined, this diet stresses the importance of unprocessed and uncooked foods above all others. It is recommended in this plan that at least three fourths of the food consumed each day be from uncooked and preferably organic sources. Because of these requirements, many people who follow this diet are vegetarians or vegans who shun animal products or animal products and byproducts respectively. Following this plan obviously cuts out much saturated fat content.

Each of the said diets comes with advantages and drawbacks. Many dieters have testified of its effectiveness in making them lose weight but there are still oppositions who said that such diets do not stick with a balanced diet plan. Basically, you just need to do your research first before starting on any of these popular diets to make sure that it is a healthy move and improve your fitness.
