A Guide To Poker Supplies

By Adriana Noton

Poker will test players ability to reason and focus as hand after hand strains social and brainpower skills. Of course having a lucky charm is a nice backup plan. It is for these reasons, and the excitement it gives that takes poker out of the casinos and into average homes. All they need is some good poker supplies.

A standard thing that almost every home game has is a set of poker chips that resemble a casino's. They can be easily found in most sporting good stores as well as many stores that sell toys. They come in solid traveling cases, making them easy to transport and store. Using the chips gets the player in the action a little more and really sets the scene. It also allows for a more family friendly game that does not have to include playing for real money.

The next thing you want to consider for your home poker game would be the surface to play on. The cheap option would be to just use your kitchen table. But this isn't always available. At the same places you find poker chips, you may be able to find a poker surface. Like the chips, these too vary in quality and price. Many of them have a felt surface with card locations painted on the board, just like a real casino surface. They can usually be folded up for easy transportation and convenient storage. It gives a nice casino touch to any home game.

One of the most important poker supplies has to be the refreshments you offer throughout the night. The game can last a very long time, and not everyone can do well. You have to give them some incentive to stick it out and keep them happy. Treat the poker night like a party. Chips, dip, nuts and an array of beverages, alcoholic or not. Besides, you need to stay alert and focused, and party mixes are just the trick to do that.

There is absolutely no way to play poker without cards and proper card accessories. Any basic deck of cards will do, as long as it has all the cards. Never have a card missing from the deck or else the game automatically becomes void and unfair.

Poker requires the deck of cards to be shuffled after every hand. This can get tedious and time consuming, not to mention embarrassing if you aren't sure how to shuffle. It needs to be done properly as well to make the game completely fair. An automatic card shuffler will help with this task and cut down on time wasted from shuffling over and over again. Spend less time worrying about mixing the cards and more time playing the game.

Poker is not an easy game to learn. There are a lot of terms and rules to learn as well as etiquette and memorizing the rank of cards. In order to be able to get a jump start into the game, it would be beneficial to pick up a guide book to learn the basics. Many will even teach you more advanced tactics and bluffing tips so that you are always taking the pots instead of giving them up.

Poker is an intense game of strategy, persistence and luck. It is as difficult as it is fun and is a joy and a reward to start mastering playing cards. And unlike most games, when you finally master this game, it will literally pay off.
