Facts Concerning Hunting For Alligators

By Frank Stone

Activities involving killing and capturing of wildlife in known as hunting. Hunting is among the oldest economic activities. The history of hunting dates back to the beginning of human history. This activity has lots of benefits including supplying man with leather, food and other animal products. Back in the day leather served as sleeping and clothing material. This is what hunting for alligators entails.

To date, there are still people who go hunting especially in the Western countries. An example of such is the United States whereby a license is issued to the person who wants to hunt any kind of wildlife and of course alligators are included. This proves the fact that though hunting is practiced, the activity is more regulated and possesses advanced technology. Gator hunting is the most prominent in the southeaster states of the U. S. A.

The states have a high number of alligators that without controlling their population, they would pose a serious threat to human safety. Some of thee states include Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Alabama, Texas, Georgia, and Arkansas. In these states, the state governments issue people with permits to hunt the reptiles. The hunting window is usually open for about a month before it closes.

The other state of the southeaster states whereby Gator hunting is illegal and especially if one is not a legal employee of the wildlife service is North Carolina. It is a requirement by the law that if anyone comes across the alligators they should report to appropriate authorities for action. These animals are considered as protected species and anyone found hunting is guilty of charges.

To be issued with a license, there are several requirements that one must complete first. The first one is that they must make an application for the license by filling an application form. In the form, they indicate personal details such as name, date of birth, and social security number. The application is usually accompanied by an application fee, which varies from one state to another.

The hunter is issued with a license indicating the span of the area they are allowed to carry their activities. Also indicated on the permit is the number of alligators a hunter is allowed to catch within a specific period. Fines and other measures may be imposed on a hunter who strays from their specified area. The measures are taken because straying is considered illegal. When the permit expires hunting is also supposed to stop immediately. The expiry date of permit is usually indicated.

As had been stated above, the increasing population of the gators causes a security threat to the humans thereby causing conflict. This can be supported by the fact that alligators lays many eggs during every season and this multiplies their generations. This provides a situation whereby alligators go into the human space leading to conflict. Alligators are therefore termed as dangerous animals.

In this part of the world, the annual hunting culture has risen due to the healthy number of gators. Apart from this, gators are hunted for their skins. People use their skins to make a wide range of products. The products include leather jackets, shoes, watch handles, bags, and hats.
