Various activities in life bring about adrenaline rush that makes life more interesting. In Ontario, there is a wide range of outdoor activities that a person can engage in to boost excitement. Distinct hunters use different techniques of hunting bears. However, for new hunters they should be cautious and readily prepared for what lies ahead in their quest for hunting a bear. Most methods take advantage of the strong ability of bears to smell scents that are far away. Hunters use these scents to capitalize their chances of capturing the targeted animal. Baiting is a common hunting method among many hunters. This process or technique involves using a particular substance or product that is highly needed by bears. Mostly food is used as the bait product. It is tied on to a forty-five gallon drum, which is chained to a tree to prevent the particular hunted animal from dragging the bait deep into the forest or bush. The direction to which the wind is blowing is very important in ensuring the smell of bait reaches the hunted animal.

Stalking or spotting is another preferred technique among bear hunters. It involves the hunter prowling along hydro corridors, cuts, swamp edges, fields or any other place known for bear activity in a particular area. In this method, no baiting method is required to lure in the animal. Bears are known for leaving behind a trail of large footprints from their claws.

Bears are huge animals that have muscular bodies. Therefore, it is imperative for hunters to possess special rifles or shot guns to take out the huge animal. Qualified hunters possess good knowledge pertinent to the anatomy of bears. This allows them to know the particular areas on the body fit for targeting with a gun. Penetration into the bear deserves the use guns that have a long caliber to undertake shots from a distance.

Several hunters in Ontario consider using calling as a method to lure in the prey towards their direction. They prefer using varmint squeals while others claim fawn bleats work perfectly and in their favor. Mainly this is because most bears prefer feeding on young caribou, moose, deer and elks. Thus, noise or cries that are alike to those creatures really get their attention. Usually hunters call the mammals from ground blinds and treestands. Calling is done on site of an approaching bear.

Foot traps that usually have sharp jigsaw-shaped edges are set on the ground especially paths used by these animals. They are carefully laid down and covered with branches, trees, or food components. Upon touching the particular trap, it reacts by closing up and trapping the animal.

Before engaging into hunting for the first time, an individual should consider using a guide. In addition, the person should adhere and obtain the necessary licenses as indicated by the hunting regulations of this area.
