Kids Love Being Active With Turnersville NJ Kids Gym Programs That Teach Balance And Skill

By John Davis

The experience of participating in a class on gymnastics is much more comprehensive than learning how to do rudimentary somersaults. Each child learns that others in the class are considered to be important too. With parents on the sidelines watching, they are learning how to become part of a group. At Turnersville NJ Childrens Gymnastics they learn how to follow simple rules, wait for their turn to do a trick and simply enjoy the company of other children their own age.

A parent enjoys seeing her tot try his first cartwheel. The goal is to try and neither parent or instructor expects a perfect performance at this early age. Each child is made to feel successful as long as they try each trick without giving up.

Class is an introduction to the atmosphere of a gym and the activities it provides. No child is happy sitting still or being quiet. Toddlers are encouraged to express themselves and enjoy all the physical and often noisy fun.

One piece of equipment is the balance beam. It is a board that is four inches wide. It is raised high above the floor in competitive events. The one in the toddlers class is little more than floor level. Each child is encouraged to walk from one end to the other. If they wish, a parent or the instructor will hold their hand on the first few tries. It is a good lesson in balance.

Safety and protection are stressed. For example, when they first try the forward somersaults it will be on a rubber mat placed on the hard wooden floor. Backward somersaults are a skill to be learned well after they are accustomed to the forward one.

The natural ability of some children shows up at an early age. Those who must try a little harder are never made to consider themselves less competent. The focus is on fun and personal best. At a later age, competition can be introduced to those who are interested.
