If You Ride A Bike, Some People Love and Some People Hate

By Kyle Piraino

It's hard to decide whether or not I like the people who ride around the city on a city bike. They always seem to be riding around like they are better than you. Sometimes you hate them, sometimes you want to be one of them, and then there are the times where you just plain pity them.

Being a driver in the city is usually a bad experience. A large portion of the time, you are sitting in traffic and miserable with everyone else. Then you see someone on a city bike cruise by your window and you become even angrier, envying them being able to bypass the traffic that will most likely make you late to whatever it is you are trying to get to.

On the other hand, if the weather is bad, then you have to look at the biker with large amounts of pity and some sympathy because it's the only way they have to get around. Especially in the colder months, in New York City it is not a good place to be riding a bike. With the wind and the snow, having to ride a bike around must be a huge burden.

Pedestrians have a whole different point of view. They are the bane of your existence. The Linus Bike rider is someone that makes sure you know they are better than you. They will easily get to wherever they are going before you get your destination, no matter the weather. There is never a time where a pedestrian sees a biker and enjoys their company.

Although I do not own a bike, I can understand why someone would want to use one when in the city. Driving is too difficult and expensive to park, and taking cabs and buses everywhere is a pain and also ends up being expensive. A bike is a onetime expense that lets you cruise around the city easily. It's a wonder that more people don't take advantage of it.
